That is still somewhat unnatural naming.

Would you speak of "music technology" when referring to production of
musical instruments ?

There is something abusive in words such as

	financial engineering
	information technology 

etc, an attempt to borrow the prestige of applied natural science
into a domain which is does not share the features to which a.n.s.
owes its prestige, and, from there, to infer that various rules,
including patent law, should also be transferred from a.n.s. to
that domain.

In corporate press releases you also regularly find inflationary
uses of the word "technology".  Instead of saying "we developped
this software" or "we use this calculation rule", they will
speak about a "technology", usually in connection with some 
"IPR", that makes it all look much bigger.

When looking at the uses of the word "information technology", I
in fact find little more than this kind of inflationary use.  The
word seems to owe its creation and diffusion largely to this
kind of habit.

There are arguments for not putting it into the words-to-avoid list,
but similar arguments probably apply to almost every one of the
words that is currently already on that list.
