coincidentally, the ARIN XXI IPv6 Main Event was held on that same day:

what i suspect happened is that folks did some hurry up / finish up IPv6
deployment to get ready for the ARIN XXI IPv6-only testathon hour, and some
of this new capacity was then left in place, and found by a number of dual
stack end systems who have been trying to fetch AAAA RRs and reach them for
a long time, and their luck is improving.

alas, this trick won't work every meeting.  nanog did it, ietf did it, and
arin did it, and in each case a bunch of network operators were present who
could make their own home stuff reachable by IPv6 before everybody in the
room started trying to reach it.  it's not a scalable approach to growth,
and the growth itself may not be sustainable.
