mail service interruption...

The mail delivery outage experienced over the weekend was due to lack
of disk space, presumably resulting from the size (~90Mb) of the mail
spool.  Certain (apparently unused) applications have been moved out
of /var into more appropriate locations.  Not a big deal, as hopefully
time will soon permit a system overhaul (a new, shiny helmet), and
thus a better managed mail system.
