helmet

Well the helmet machine is getting back to its old self.  I think the
operating sytem, filesystems and services are up and working well.  This
required many hours of working through a complete base install of Debian
3.0 from CD over a duplicate of the entire old filesystem, followed by an
`apt' upgrade to 3.1 testing.  Thankfully, the old problem of services not
starting and reboots requiring manual intervention are long gone:

I've got lots of our old applications and services we depended on
re-installed, including Apache, GNU Mailman, sendmail, and IMAP.  They
appear to be working.  I couldn't find a debian package for openwebmail
and the old install is not working now with Apache up.  It appears to be
Perl problems.

Right now the old hard drive is mounted read-only at /mnt/broken/ in case
there were any troubles with the filesystem transfer or overwrites by the
install.

There's a usr.old and lib.old in / which was created to make room for the
base install

I've only opened the email account of root with Mutt, and it worked (and
was full of 3000 messages).

I'll need help:

 * Testing to make sure sendmail, mailman and the pipermail archives are
   fully functional.
 * Getting openwebmailk working.
