Common Cause has a long tradition of fighting big-moneyed special
interests.  Because we believe that the gun lobby has a stranglehold
over sensible gun policy in this country we are joining with the Brady
Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence to raise awareness about legislation
that would give unprecedented legal immunity to gun makers and dealers.

I'm asking you to help stop an outrageous NRA-written bill currently
pending in the Senate. It will just take you a minute and it will make
all the difference.

One Week and Counting ...


Over the last several months I've been increasingly alarmed by the NRA's
extremist agenda. Now I'm writing to ask for your help. 

We have less than a week to prepare for a showdown with the NRA. In less
than a week, the gun dealer that "lost" the assault rifle used by the
D.C. snipers will get away with arming those killers -- unless we stop
it. If we let the NRA win on this issue, we only have ourselves to
blame. 

In late February the Senate is scheduled to vote on a bill giving
unprecedented special legal protections to gun makers and dealers. This
blanket immunity would cover even the notorious Bull's Eye Shooter
Supply, whose recklessness ended up arming the snipers and whose guns
have been used in at least 52 other crimes. If this bill gets approved,
the families of sniper victims would have their cases against Bull's Eye
thrown out of court. What a farce. 

This bill is a referendum on Bull's Eye. Senators voting yes on this
bill are voting to give Bull's Eye immunity. Senators voting no on this
bill are voting to hold Bull's Eye accountable for its negligence and
misconduct. 

Bill Bratton, chief of the Los Angeles Police Department, is leading the
charge against this bill. In a recent press conference, he urged the
Senate not to pass legislation that protects gun dealers who arm
killers. "Gun stores and manufacturers must be held to the same
standards of safety as any other industry," he said. Police chiefs from
around the nation join him in opposing this irresponsible legislation.

reality. The vote will be in just a week. So time is of the essence. In
November, gun control supporters delayed this heinous bill--now it's
