Hi Greens,

I hope you all had a good town meeting day.

At the local level we have one Green who was elected to office.  Our
congratulations go to Benjamin Clarke who was elected to the Winooski
City Council. When I asked Ben why he is a Green this was his response:

"I am a Green because I am a living being.  Because I am a living being,
living beings are my priority.  I believe that the Green Party sees
living beings as more important than relatively dead things.  For me,
the essence of wisdom is understanding the interrelatedness of all
things and choosing to care for life as a priority.  By living this
understanding, we create greater probabilities for personal and
planetary longevity." I think this is a statement with which we could
all agree.

We already have one Green in local office and that is Rob Williams who
serves on the Waitsfield School Board and helps us with some of our
press releases.  Thanks to you also Rob.

Mary Alice Bisbee ran for the Waitsfield Select Board but didn't make
it.  We appreciate your trying Mary Alice.

So we have a beginning in electoral politics.  The next level of races
will be at the state with Representatives, Senators and state
officials.  We encourage you to consider running  or to help find others
to run.

Of course the big political news is Ralph Nader's decision to run as an
independent.  This has created quite a stir among the Democrats and
within the Green Party itself.  The Vermont Green Party will be deciding
what its position will be on a presidential candidate at our May 1
Spring Convention in Montpelier.  Whatever this decision is, the
delegates elected to attend the National Convention In Milwaukee June
24-27, will be carrying it forward.  We will be telling you more about
the options in future emails but for now please plan on being with us on
May 1.

We can send 8 delegates to the national convention and right now we have
about five people interested in going.  It is not too early to start
planning for this.  We anticipate the cost to be about $800 although we
hope to raise some money to reduce the cost somewhat.  It is a great
opportunity to learn about the Green Party and meet people from other
states.  Let me know if you are thinking about it.

I was x-c skiing yesterday at the Green Mountain Senior Games at
Blueberry Lake X-C Center in Warren. I came in last and was outdone by
both men and women and younger and older folks.  It was fun but maybe I
better stick with politics!  have a good weekend and enjoy the last of
the snow.
