Past ABA Presidents, Former Judges, Elected Officials and Prominent Attorneys Demand Full Disclosure and Immediate Inquiry of Bush Administration's Involvement in Torture Memos 08.04.2004, Washington, D.C. — Some of the country's most respected members of the legal community, former judges, elected officials, former attorneys general, former American Bar Association presidents, DC Bar presidents, professors, and deans have signed on to a strong, bipartisan statement addressing the Bush Administration's preparation of memos related to torture. "The lawyers who prepared and signed these memoranda," reads the statement, "have not met their high obligation to defend the Constitution." These lawyers have called upon the administration to release all memoranda and documents related to the treatment of prisoners and detainees and for an appropriate inquiry of how and why the memoranda were prepared and by whom they were approved.
