Abstract:
Richard Stallman, founder of the Free Software Foundation, will explain
how software patents obstruct software development. Software patents are
patents that cover software ideas. They restrict the development of
software, so that every design decision brings a risk of getting sued.
Patents in other fields restrict factories, but software patents restrict
every computer user. Economic research shows that they even retard
progress.
This talk will be open to the public and free of admission, however we can
only seat the first 50 people to arrive. Please send an email to
[email protected] to let us know if you plan on attending. Feel free to
distribute this announcement where appropriate.
Mr. Stallman will speak on software patents and answer questions from the
audience with any remaining time.
