Ian, I have been using soap I made from the glycerin for maybe 5 or 6 months and I have found it works very well. I am making only liquid soap. It looks like it is setting up into bars but it doesn't. I mix about 1 gallon of refined glycerin (methanol removed) with KOH and some plain water. I am not sure (not enough experimenting yet) how much water is the proper amount. I mixed the water and 7 ounces of KOH with the glycerin and then let it react for at least 3 weeks. I then mix in more water to get the thickness I want. After that I have been adding some kind of essential oil to give it a better smell. In the original form it doesn't smell that great. This liquid soap is great for use in a pumper and it seems to be very good for your hands. Mostly we have been using it in the kitchen with a lemon essential oil or sage and we are very pleased with it. My biggest draw back is I don't have enough liquid soap pumpers to have them at all of the places I want yet. I'll be taking the glycerin back to the site this weekend and looking into the Crockpot idea. I guess a propane stove would be too dangerous considering methanol is heavier than air... Have you ever tried to make liquid soap before or are you only doing solid?
