He unloaded 5 more barrels of fuel and we loaded up 5 barrels of WVO. =20 Washing ---------------- Things are going slow. Our wash recirculation is not working properly, which means we have to use fresh water for every pass. The recirculation will successfully recirculate wash water from the wash tote bottom to the sprayer for about 5-10 minutes, before bits of fuel start emulsifying. =20 Felix and I are going to put a rheostat on the pump (thanks Zan for the tip!) and slow it down a bit and see if that let's us recirculate for longer. =20 I've gone through 6 washes now on our first 100 gallons. I'm using our old friend, phenolphthalein, as a rough indicator. Other ideas on ascertaining when the wash water is neutral? Maybe someone could pick up some pH tests. =20 Needs --------- Wash Duty: We need washers, people to come down and wash fuel. It's our most important need. =20 2nd wash tote: If we want to have any hope of keeping up with Jeff, we need to set up a second wash tote. Need some people to come down and plumb that up. =20 Hoses: I asked Gary about getting 60 feet of hose and 3 sets of camlock connectors. Felix wants me to amend that request to 3 males and 6 females. We have three hoses that are leaking now. =20 Water Heater: We need to get a second water heater online to handle the voracious appetite of our wash tote (since it is finnicky about recirculation). It's hard to do repeated washes quickly when I go through 50 gallons and then have to refill our single water heater and wait for it to heat up. =20 Brian, =20 I talked to Jeff about doing a prewash. He would need to pump his reacted fuel to a settling tank to have room to add 5% water. Currently his reactor is totally full when he reacts and there is no room for adding water. Doing a 5% prewash will accomplish two important things: =20 1) It will make the propensity for emulsification of fuel in our washes drop dramatically, as it gets rid of a significant portion of lye in advance. =20 2) It will cut our number of washes needed per batch in half (at the very least), which speeds up the time it takes us to wash. =20 If you can talk Jeff into doing a prewash, it would be the most impactive thing we can do for our wash process.
