Throttling pumps

In the future, use the valve on the inlet side of the pump to  
throttle flow, NOT the valve on the outlet side. It is possible that  
the pump was working too hard against the back valve and burned out  
that way. I'm not sure, though.

Please ignore this advice.  Always throttle the outlet side of 
centrifugal pumps, not the inlet.  Throttling the inlet can cause 
cavitation, especially if the tank is pumped dry.  All the blue Harbor 
Freight pumps are centrifugal pumps. (wash totes and processors).

I believe that the pump was full of junk ( the shaft would not move).  I 
will install an inlet strainer on the #2 wash tote and retro on the #1 
as time permits.  Note that we have lost sprinkler heads into the tote 
and to my knowledge have not fished them out.....

I will also install better throttling valves on the outlet side of the 
pumps when I am on-site this Saturday.

I will pick up a hose and wye fitting allowing us to keep the water 
pressure on full time to our water heater.

If anyone knows where to get solid brass sprinkler heads, please call me 
to discuss - I can give you the specs.
