may wanna also see if the 'snow screen' airflow grille piece is clogged
up - you can see the method for removal on TDI Club's website...besides
the fuel filter that may be a likely culprit, especially with mud, grime
and rain in Portland/Seattle area....

good luck!  I agree that car should get MUCH better mileage - my wife
drives her '00 TDI beetle downtown all day on B99 (has a wine route) and
still gets 40mpg....
