FS: 1981 VW Vanagon Diesel, Popup

Hey all,

I've got a Vanagon for sale here in Portland.

Description:

This is a stock 1.6 liter diesel. I have done a lot to it to make it  
as reliable as possible since I have been driving it every day, and  
sometimes as far away as 300 miles. Alas, it's not a Westfalia, so  
although it's a camper, it doesn't have a kitchen.



New parts since I have had it:

Starter
Ignition Switch
Windshield and seal
Optima red top battery
Rebuilt cylinder head
Bosch injectors
Bosch glow plugs and relay
Water pump and thermostat
VDO Oil pressure guage
All filters
Tires - light truck radials, NOT whimpy passenger radials- over $500  
in tires alone
Injection pump has been tested and new seals installed by diesel shop
Timing belt
Slave Cylinder for Clutch

The front passenger corner was crunched when I got it and the  
windshield was smashed really bad. I pulled out the dent enough for  
the new windshield to seal correctly and primered it to keep it from  
rusting. It is not the prettiest thing.

Inside the head liner is in excellent condition. So is the pop top.  
All the zippers work on the pop top and there are no tears in the  
canvas. There is a small tear in the screen on the passenger side and  
I included a picture of it. The front zippered opening does not have  
a screen so that you can access the luggage compartment on the front  
section of the roof. You can sleep 2 people up top. Down below the  
back seat can be folded into a bed as well. And you can fold just  
half of the bed down if you want. The worst thing inside is the  
upholstery especially on the front seats that is why they have seat  
covers. Other wise the door pannels, carpet, and headliner are in  
pretty good shape. There are brackets for curtains all the way  
around. I've sewn any missing curtains except the rear window.
Nothing leaks! There's no funky mold smell, nor cigarettes. It just  
smells like the country.

This van is currently running on B20 Biodiesel. To make a complete  
conversion, the rubber fuel hose will eventually have to be replaced,  
but the hoses are less than $50 total. It does not run on veggie oil-  
yet!
