Very well stated. There will always be gross abuse in government
spending. This is all levels. Look at all the taxes collected by
Portland OR in the last 50 years since I-5 was widened to two lanes in
1958. What about all the bridgesin less than mile over the Willamette
created in the early 20th century and we have only two over the
Columbia for interstate commerce and transportation. And to think they
are looking at tearing down a perfectly functional bridge (100 years
old) to put in a toll bridge when the bridge is 3 lanes and the free
way is only two. Where is the reasoning in that for monies collected.
To be sure there needs to be a bridge in east county (Camas/Washugal -
Greasham/Troutdale) before any of these moronic people think about
tearing down a functional bridge and once again imposing more taxes to
the driving public with a toll bridge. Be sure to let your
representatives know of your concern for where all the monies go
besides PERS retirements; that we who drive and pay gas tax as well as
other taxes for roads and transportation need to be given
representation for the taxes collected. Maybe being pro-active in
building roads for the next twenty years might make sense having none
for 50 years. This would be good start in that another ten years will
pass while taxes are collected to run more studies or even get
something on the drawing board for improvements.
