Kick starting a "Newbie"

Well, after 2 years of procrastination, I finally got a space in my =
mini-barn cleared away to build a bio still.  And with the price of =
diesel now in the stratosphere, it's time to take the plunge.  Now the =
only problem is which plans should I buy to build the best, most =
reliable and hopefully simple to use system. I really don't want to =
spend $2-3K for a 40 gallon ready made "factory" still.  I was wondering =
if one can be built for around $500 using quality parts (I.E. not Harbor =
Freight type pumps).  Also, any good books out there with a simple "take =
you by the hand" type instructions, you know, like, "Bio-diesel making =
for Dummies" type book?

Also, by now I assume it is nearly impossible to get free used cooking =
oil from any restaurant, so do any of the Co-op members sell any surplus =
for , say fifty cents a gallon?  If I can make fuel for $2 a gallon =
total cost, I would be happy.  Thanks folks, hope to hear some guiding =
