For those of you who don't follow the CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program, http://www.odcmp.org), Italy has returned to the US Army a large number of M1 Carbines (my impression is ~35,000). These carbines have been transferred from the Army to the CMP, and are scheduled to go on sale within the next month. This whole process will be very parallel to the current CMP Garand selling process. So, if you're interested in buying an M1 Carbine, you should come out to the Garand Match on Sunday and fulfill your marksmanship requirement. The requirements to purchase a carbine or M1 Garand from the CMP are: 1. Be a US citizen, 18 years old or older 2. Be a current member of a CMP affiliated club (LASC is) 3. Show evidence of participation in a marksmanship or firearms related activity. The Garand Matches meet this requirement. You just need to participate--doesn't matter what your score is. I issue you a pareticipation certificate, and you are good to go. An updated status of the carbine sales is promised for next week-end, 16-18 Feb. Posting information on National issues is OK, but please do not over-utilize the list.
