I presume you have read the instructions in
http://cr.yp.to/daemontools/install.html right? svscanboot is not
designed for running manually; it's meant to be run either by init
or rc scripts (backgrounded, in the latter case).

The install script provided with daemontools does the Right Thing
in general. Is there a reason you're not using it?
