-------- Original Message -------- Subject: [Upd-discuss] WIPO Development Agenda: First day of the First PCDA Date: Mon, 20 Feb 2006 18:47:17 -0800 From: Judit Rius Sanjuan <[email protected]> To: [email protected] The first meeting of the WIPO Provisional Committee for Proposals Related to a Development Agenda (PCDA) meets from 20 February to 24 February 2006 in Geneva and I am representing Union for the Public Domain this time. New proposals from Chile <http://www.wipo.int/meetings/en/doc_details.jsp?doc_id=55592>, Colombia <http://www.wipo.int/meetings/en/doc_details.jsp?doc_id=56472>, United States <http://www.wipo.int/meetings/en/doc_details.jsp?doc_id=56552> and the 15 countries of the Friends of Development <http://www.wipo.int/meetings/en/doc_details.jsp?doc_id=56613> Group have been presented and hopefully will be discussed during the following 4 days. Today, the countries' delegations presented the different proposals (including the African Group Proposal from the 3IIM) and made general statements. The chairman, Ambassador Gauto from Paraguay, seems committed to force substantive discussions. Let's see if the US and the European Union allow him. For the moment, the best coverage on the first day discussions can be found at: Thirus Blog: http://fromgeneva.blogspot.com/2006/02/day-1-of-wipo-pcda-meeting_20.html IP Watch: http://www.ip-watch.org/weblog/index.php?cat=13 It is worthy mentioning that two reports relevant to the discussions have been released today: One from Consumers International in Copyright and access to knowledge Report: http://www.consumersinternational.org/Shared_ASP_Files/UploadedFiles/C50257F3-A4A3-4C41-86D9-74CABA4CBCB1_COPYRIGHTFinal16.02.06.pdf and another from 3D on "Intellectual Property, Development and Human Rights: How Human Rights Can Support Proposals for a World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Development Agenda Report: http://www.3dthree.org/en/page.php?IDpage=27 To be continued... -- Judit Rius Sanjuan judit.rius at cptech.org www.cptech.org Consumer Project on Technology 1621 Connecticut Ave, NW, Washington, DC 20009 USA Tel.: +1.202.332.2670, Ext 17 Fax: +1.202.332.2673 _______________________________________________ Upd-discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.essential.org/mailman/listinfo/upd-discuss
