I am pleased to announce the release of GNU ed 1.22.3.

GNU ed is a line-oriented text editor. It is used to create, display, mod=
ify=20
and otherwise manipulate text files, both interactively and via shell=20
scripts. A restricted version of ed, red, can only edit files in the curr=
ent=20
directory and cannot execute shell commands. Ed is the 'standard' text=20
editor in the sense that it is the original editor for Unix, and thus wid=
ely=20
available. For most purposes, however, it is superseded by full-screen ed=
itors.

The homepage is at http://www.gnu.org/software/ed/ed.html

The sources can be downloaded from http://ftpmirror.gnu.org/ed/

The sha256sum is:

ed-1.22.3.tar.lz

This release is also GPG signed. You can download the signature by append=
ing=20
'.sig' to the URL. If the 'gpg --verify' command fails because you don't =

have the required public key, then run one of these commands to import it=
:

   gpg --recv-keys 8FE99503132D7742
   wget http://ftpmirror.gnu.org/gnu-keyring.gpg

Key fingerprint =3D 1D41 C14B 272A 2219 A739  FA4F 8FE9 9503 132D 7742

Changes in version 1.22.3:

   * The change to print the file name escaped when replaced into a shell=
=20
command has been reverted. (Reported by S=F6ren Tempel).

   * When '--unsafe-names' is not specified, only the control characters =
\a,=20
\b, \t, \v, \f, \n, \r, \033, and \177 are now rejected in file names.

   * 'make check' now checks file names with non-ASCII characters coded=20
either in ISO-8859-1 or in UTF-8.

   * 'EXIT STATUS' now has its own section in the man page.
