I don't think this is very helpful at this point. Explaining what
"distribution" means and that there are _a lot_ out there would be
sufficient in my view.

Same here, since every distribution has its own particularities, "how
to install _a_ distribution" doesn't make much sense to me. Besides
that's best shown on the second day by actually doing it.
