Moin to all of you,

I hope not to make a huge mistake to publish a mail in two
mailing-lists.

My intention is to get connected to people who possibly could
support to establish an open tablet within the educational
tablet-project in Niedersachsen/Germany. Official statements (in
German) follow tomorrow on March, 1st, here:
http://www.mk.niedersachsen.de/portal/live.php?navigation_id=26328&article_id=6525&_psmand=8

Some details about the state of this project and the chances I see
(in addition to the main limitations of proprietary systems):

- Although Apple is omnipresent (media-consultants already have
an Ipad for testing purposes), the technical limitations of
these systems are also obviously: E.g. the upload of
multimedia-files taken by pupils during lessons onto the
widespread schoolserver-system Iserv doesn't work.

- The market of Android-Edu-apps isn't analysed yet. So: Why not
invest in presenting open edu-apps for an open system?

- Aspects of data-security of Android and iOS in schools aren't
reviewed yet. Why not present the advantage of open soft- and
hardware?

- The cost: The 'spark-tablet' is still a kind of mysterious to
me (I would like to know more inner details of the machine...),
but with planned 200€ its much cheaper than an Ipad, which has
to be bought by the parents. There is a kind of financial help
to poor families from school to school, but it's still the half
of the price of an other tablet.

- Openess means vulnerability in school, unfortunately. Pupils
are great analyzers, who find the leaks (I love these beings ;-) !) But: Is
there a chance for a Recovery/Imaging-System like LINBO by Klaus
Knopper ("Knoppix") for an open tablet ?

Main question for me is:

How bundling forces of knowledge and support of the different
'sections' of OSS-edu-enthusiasts and -developers and -companies?
Pls don't mention Facebook!!! Diaspora is still working not
properly.

Establishing free desktops with Linux was (and is) hard work. But
maybe with a new system it succeeds?

Hope to hear from you

Daniel
