Every meeting we start with an opportunity for informal key signing. For this you'll need to bring paper OpenPGP fingerprint slips, see `gpg-key2ps` from the `signing-party` package (or equivalent in your GNU/Linux distro): https://packages.debian.org/signing-party =3D=3D=3D Schedule =3D=3D=3D 19:00-19:05 MFS Introduction and Key Signing 19:05-19:20 Intro to Linux Containers 19:20-19:25 Short Break (5 minutes) 19:25-20:10 Using Linux Containers 20:10-20:25 Long Break (15 minutes) 20:25-20:40 Linux Containers Advanced Usage 20:40-20:45 Short Break (5 minutes) 21:45-21:00 Advanced Virtualisation Networking =3D=3D=3D Topic details =3D=3D=3D This month's topic is Linux Containers (LXC); this is a lightweight virtualisation technology. In the "Intro" slot we will explain terms and technology used then in next slot we will use & explore LXC using virt-manager. We'll then go on to advanced usage and finally advanced virtualisation networking. If you want to follow along then bring a laptop with Linux Container tools installed, for Debian that's the package `lxc`, and Virtual Machine Manager, for Debian that's `virt-manager`. * https://linuxcontainers.org/ * https://packages.debian.org/lxc * https://packages.debian.org/virt-manager =3D=3D=3D=3D Intro to Linux Containers =3D=3D=3D=3D This will explain about the history, use cases and technology involved in Linux Containers such as chroot, control groups (cgroups) and namespac= es. * https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chroot * https://manpages.debian.org/chroot * https://manpages.debian.org/cgroups * https://manpages.debian.org/namespaces =3D=3D=3D=3D Using Linux Containers =3D=3D=3D=3D In the main part of the meeting we will talk about, demonstrate and explore Linux Containers. We will use Virtual Machine Manager (virt-manager) to configure and use the containers. You are welcome to follow along, see above to have the prerequisites before the meeting. =3D=3D=3D=3D Linux Containers Advanced Usage =3D=3D=3D=3D This part will contain advanced usage of Linux Containers such as User Namespaces. =3D=3D=3D=3D Advanced Virtualisation Networking =3D=3D=3D=3D In the final part of the meeting we will explore advanced virtualisation networking using virt-manager. This will be applicable to both Linux Containers and QEMU. =3D=3D Location =3D=3D The meeting will take place at our new venue of Manchester Technology Centre, details above. =3D=3D Transport =3D=3D =3D=3D=3D Parking =3D=3D=3D Please research and decide where to park before heading on your journey and have a Plan B. There are paid parking lots around the venue, they are marked by a blue P in OpenStreetMap centred on Manchester Technology Centre: https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=3D16/53.4722/-2.2379 Most of those parking lots are owned by NCP: http://www.ncp.co.uk/ In some of the side streets in the venue surrounding area there are parking meter bays that become zero cost after 8pm on Tuesday so you will have to pay up until then and the maximum stay is 2 hours BUT MAKE SURE YOU VERIFY ALL THIS on parking. This is probably only a good option if you know the area. If you can't decide where to park then ask me for advice. =3D=3D=3D Public Transport =3D=3D=3D Closest train stations to the venue are: * Manchester Oxford Road (MCO) train station * Manchester Piccadilly (MAN) train station For other public transport see OpenStreetMap using the "Transport" layer centred on Manchester Technology Centre: https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=3D15/53.4722/-2.2379&layers=3DT =3D=3D More Information =3D=3D Information about Manchester Free Software can be found on the Manchester Free Software pages on LibrePlanet: https://libreplanet.org/wiki/Manchester Regards, Mike.
