That would incentivize fighting to keep a commit in even when it would
be better for the project as a whole to alter it.

Adding a market can be useful, but it is always dangerous=C2=B9 and finding
metrics that do not harm an existing creative community (that=E2=80=99s what
programmers are) is extremely hard. It becomes even harder if you try to
put it into an algorithm instead of trusting people.
