hi,

Sorry for beeing late, finally i can provide you with some information about
GIS.

GIS stands for Geographic Information System
it is an information system that can capture, display, maintain and analize
information about objects with geographic location

GIS mainly deal with 2 types of data :
  1. Geograhic data (location, color, linetype, ... etc)
2 Tabular data. ( normal attribute data alike any other DB system)

There are 2 types of GIS:
  1. Raster GIS ( deals mainly with large area maps, normally satlite
images , used for land use applications)
  2. Vector GIS ( deals with low sacle maps, can display more acurate maps,
used for the utlities application )

Typical application:
For example you can feed the GIS engine with maps for Electric or
Water/Sewer system and this finally to be save in database engine
users can do the following :
1. Display the map
2. browse and/or edit the tabular data related to objects on the map
3. Edit the geographic object attributes like color, line type, etc
4. Analize the network
5. Design a new network area
6. apply smiluation on networks for various load schemahs

in short is it a database system that can treat the geographic location, any
organization deals with maps can make use of GIS.

Hi,
Nice work on the GIS I hope that we will see some material about it in the
web site. Can you write a small tutorial about GIS to post it in the
articles
(or tutorials) section?

I am with the Idrisi name which was suggested buy Mohammad because of his
great contributions to the astrogical and geographiacl sciences.

Regards,
Jamil
