Hi, today Sandesh and myself installed subversion on concentration.tv Everybody, developers or sysadmins, *has* to know the basics, since subversion is the guardian and librarian of all the service we do. If you do not have a temporary account on Sandesh machine, and you do not have your own freeBSD box, ask him to create one for you. When the new machine will be in place, we shall start using Subversion daily. Why subversion and not CVS? I think a conclusive comparison among SCM is here: http://better-scm.berlios.de/comparison/ Look at the comparison, and read this article: http://better-scm.berlios.de/subversion/compelling_alternative.html We should start getting used to it. Just follow one of these tutorials using your shell account: Short tutorial: http://www.osnews.com/story.php?news_id=6094 A Novices Tutorial on Subversion: http://www.germane-software.com/~ser/R_n_R/subversion.html Oreilly Single user: http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/onlamp/2002/10/31/subversion.html OreillyMultiuser: http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/apache/2002/12/19/svn2.html From the manual: http://svnbook.red-bean.com/svnbook/ch03.html Good luck. priyadarshan a Vasudeva server PS: Using the FreeBSD port system is a dream!
