Sorry if this is a bit off-topic, but the way I look at it (and a lot of
industry talking heads feel the same way, at least about America) is that
we're headed toward a services-only oriented society. I do some content
creation at my job, but the majority of my value is in *how* I know to do
things, as opposed to the *things* I do. I'm an important member of the
team because they know if they have a problem, they can come to me and in
all likelihood I can take care of it. That's service.

I firmly believe we aren't too far away from a technological
revolution--call it the Nanotech age--in which wealth is going to become
massively redefined as tools, construction supplies, and even food is
generated essentially for free. Or at least for the cost of the raw
materials. "Start burning fossil fuels again;" Kim Stanley Robinson says,
"we need the carbon!"

In this future age the only value will be service. And you'll have so much
free time, you'll be able to generate all the content you want pro bono.
