Specifically, I recognize to J.M DuPont a lot of good will and several interesting ideas. Said this, I am really pissed off by the single remark I quoted above. I've been always speaking explicitly of giving control to the authors to guarantee an average living, not a Barbara Cartland or Wilbur Smith manor (even if I find that the second deserved it for many of his books). Not to defend Michael Jackson or Sony. Fighting a few monopolies is OK, curbing the freedom of many more not rich, normal people, is not. I find extremely impolite and short sighted to make any remark about financial possibilities and habits of unknown people online, especially the accusations that they are greedy or cheapskates (PLEASE do see the faq "hardware is so cheap today" of the project in my signature, for which I wrote both paid and unpaid articles, and give gratis as much time as I can, for an example of the second case). "luxury goods for their children", indeed. Yes, the normal author needs to write to buy Jenny her third personal pony. What if he cannot go out and teach because on a wheelchair? if he can't afford to move or commute for hours to where the courses are? If those spoiled children full of luxury goods need special drugs and care (and I did say that drugs are a special case)?
