I think that you are too optimistic: 'the' reason why there is so much illegal copying is simply that people are immature. They think or know that just about *everything* is overpriced, not just music, at least because of advertising. They only take the files, not the BMW or the nice outfit because they would be caught. If an entry level car started to cost 100000 USD tomorrow people would act the right way: they would tell the dealer stuff it up your ass, I'll never going to accept to pay 10/20 times what it costed to you. Don't illude yourself: most people simply don't bother with all the cultured and subtle distinctions we are enjoing here lately about tangible and not tangible goods, etc... They repeat them, together with the undoubtedly true fact that music companies are trying to make the highest possible profit, as a rationalization made after the fact.
