You have the freedom of action, the freedom of speech.

Selection of software is a personal choice, that personal choice is
anchored in your personal freedom.

In the case of normal copyrighted materials, they are covered by
copyright law, that covers reproduction and public performance.

You have this right to use whatever software you want as long as you
respect the copyright of the author.

You can write a perlscript to process the file, view it with emacs and
can convert it into artwork. 

The issue is that the EULA from digital rights, coupled with Java and
flash EULA precludes the ability to choose the software to use.

Lets say you write your own java and flash decompiler that will convert
the java and flash into a c program that display the same content.
AFAIK you cannot use this on the courseware. 

What is the point in preventing the user from viewing the content in
human readable form? 

So, may argument is that you have these rights that are taken away by
the EULA, otherwise you dont need to take them away and the contract is
mute.
