It's not *just* that more people are trying to exploit it, it's that it's so easily exploitable. I think the script kiddie factor adds much more to MS woes than raw numbers of talented crackers. You have a tier of folks who can break the heck out of any machine or OS they want. These folks are either busy protecting others for hire, or busy with really complex hacks in really sexy targets. Everyone else is executing a script. (The intellectual equivalent of lighting a bag of crap, ringing a doorbell and running). By scraping the probability of script launchers out, (as you have with Linux due to multi user/super user environment, and protected kernel space, etc) you can remove a lot of that. These folks don't think. They're not smart. They're vandals with nothing to do.
