I don't mean to dicker much here, but I disagree a bit. Correct, most
general linux users do not tinker or care about the source. But a lot
do... alot. I see the most tinkering in the enterprise space. Lots of
folks are massaging the distro a bit... compiling their own kernels for
their own needs.

I have talked to lots and lots of hobbiest who have toyed with the
source code to see how stuff works... and these are folks who wouldn't
without free software... cuz they couldn't. Period.

Regardless, tons of folks are tinkering, helping out with docs (not
enough of those!), sending in bug reports. The power of free-software is
the community that forms because of it. IMHO. Anyone can submit a patch,
whether it be code or docs or a FAQ or test-results, etc...

Maybe I am splitting hairs with you on this one. :)
