I have gone freelance a few months ago, and I had jobs lined 
back-to-back since then.  Demand for Linux skills seem to be booming 
from what I can see.  My area's economy is mostly dominated by public 
administration, which seem to have woken up to OSS. I hear a lot about 
pilot and test deployement in the public sector.

My ex-employer is a Linux integrator that does pretty well in the SMB 
market selling turn-key solution and support.  He currently employ four 
people working full-time installing and supporting Linux.  I would not 
be surprised if he hire more people eventually.

Personnally, I think the Linux is about to become a very sought-after 
skills.  I don't think there will ever be the same volume of jobs as 
those for more entrenched skillset such as Windows, but there will 
certainly be much less candidate for Linux/OSS position in the near future.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience.  I can't tell if your problems 
are related to your local job market, the Linux job market in general or 
your job-searching strategy.  All I can say is that things are good for 
me ... at last !
