Agreed.

We are a large power user in NJ (about 1.5 million kw-hrs per month) with
JCP&L.

For the last twelve months, the average cost per kw-hr is 12.89 cpkwhr,
generation accounting for 9.09, with the balance in delivery.

We've seen an increase of 26% on average yearly compared.

So, looking at raw power utilization, 120v * 20 amp / 1000 w/kw * 24h *
30.4375 days = 1,763 kw-hrs / 20amp-mon, or $227/month.

This of course assumes 100% utilization, which is not attainable (well, is
attainable, but not recommended). Also does not include power 'overhead', or
losses, cooling, and everything else that everyone else knows about in here.
In our situation (and this seems to jive with people I compared notes with),
we see 57% of our energy go to critical load, with the balance go to the
aforementioned overhead. So, $227 / 0.57 = $398/month.

The discussions of datacenters in TVA or Washington or Louisville or
wherever are intriguing - but I have questions. What happens when your
customer doesn't want to be there? What happens when you can get at least 3
or 5 options in connectivity?

If that didn't matter, I'd be building a datacenter on the north shore of
the Saguenay River in Quebec.
