RE: 48v DC

I would suggest looking at "Zippy" power supplies..  that is what I use
in my servers to avoid the situation you are talking about.  They make
DC power supplies for just about every rack server configuration.  If
you can avoid the dc-ac-dc conversion you will avoid a lot of heat in
your rack.  

Just search for "Zippy DC power supply" ..  you will find a number of
sources..
