I saw that part of the FAQ. There is no ~ftp/dev structure on the box
otherwise I would have done that. I did not set the machine up I have
only been asked to help troubleshoot this issue.

I even have dragged out an old 5.7 Solaris machine as a test box. Stock
in.ftpd that comes with 5.7 works in passive mode just fine. I have asked
why they installed wu-ftpd instead of just using the stock version.
I have asked to see if I can modify inetd.conf to use in.ftpd that comes
with this machine instead of wu-ftpd.
