Vodacom faking RICA registrations?

Is it just the three of us, or is this more widespread? As the cut-off date for RICA registrations approaches it seems Vodacom has decided the RICA process is ridiculous enough to justify that they fake a registration rather than be forced to cut off a revenue generating subscriber. I received an SMS recently saying that my number was now RICA'd and so did two other people close to me. I use a prepaid sim. On Sunday I tried to properly RICA my sim card at the local Checkers and was told it was registered already. I then could have registered my son's sim card as well without proof of residence, but I offered it anyway. Vodacom's customer services claims they cannot check how it happened; they're not "RICA". The lady at they Checkers counter (who is a RICA representative) couldn't tell me how I was registered either. Anyone else that has had a ghost registration?
