MS Office, Open Office and other packages are all vulnerable to the same

Word is just a good example of it.

I frequently use existing files as boilerplates for document structure. I
doubt I'm alone in this. Sure, I could go to the trouble of setting up
templates for infrequently used documents, except during "my time" I'd
rather ramble on mailing lists, browse reddit and play games. During "work
time" I'm too busy.

A quick google reveals solutions in all spheres:
- user: read through a howto, save to a sanitised file
- user: or run a metadata cleanup program
- admin: implement a metadata-stripping policy at mail server level
- business: buy a hosted solution and save yourself the time&frustration

Microsoft also provides a tool

or at least did, eventually I get a blank page not a download.
