We use PRTG (http://www.paessler.com/). I know other ISPs are also using it more and more. Free for up to 10 sensors and reasonably priced. It is also the only product that we came up with that does netflow at an affordable price. It can report on unusual activity and can monitor EVERYTHING even can check for content on web pages! There are mobile phone apps as well... This has not really worked for a long time as its no longer supported. The advantage was you could "draw" your network, label the links and machines - then "monitor" them. Machines would turn red and very simple graphs on a line would show traffic - all pretty.
