First of all none of this has anything to do with Joe's concerns, namely that GSM spectrum is being re-used for LTE. I doubt it is, but who knows what the MNO's are doing to expedite LTE launches while all news indicates ICASA has gone collectively insane. Second of all, if you don't realise smartphones make up the _smallest_ portion of the mobile market you need to step down from your ivory tower. Especially in Africa where even data capable phones are rare. I've yet to visit a country where I'd consider 3G (nevermind LTE or HSPA+) coverage good enough to support a purely VoIP service.
