iWeek 2016 - "around the corner"

 

Dear Internet community members

 

iWeek XV is now just around the corner, and we'd like to encourage you to
register for this year's event. Attendance at iWeek is free, and there are a
range of presentations on technical topics, Internet policy,
telecommunications regulations, domain names and business issues. iWeek
represents a great opportunity to ensure that your company and your
employees remain up-to-date on key Internet industry developments.

 

The co-hosts for this year's conference are ISPA, INX-ZA, ZADNA and ZACR.
iWeek takes place at the Wanderers Club in Johannesburg, and runs for a full
week, from 19th to 23rd September. A preliminary conference program is

highlights: 

 

*         Monday, 19th September: iWeek kicks off with a day dedicated to
ISPA, which turns 20 years old this year. Hong Kong-based Internet expert
and former ICANN Vice Chairperson Pindar Wong opens the day with a keynote
presentation on the future of the Internet. Community members are welcome to
attend the open sessions of this day, as well as operator workshops offered
by Neotel and Openserve.

 

*         Tuesday, 20th September: Tuesday is a very busy day, and you'll
want to make sure your company sends more than one representative to cover
all the sessions. There is a full day of technical content, covering routing
registries, IRR usage and RPKI, IETF developments, web payments, and DANE,
followed by a peering BoF. Also on Tuesday, ZADNA, ZACR and ICANN will be
providing a full day of updates on domain name developments. For those
interested in fibre developments, the FTTH-C will be running a workshop on
Fibre Optics 101 and providing an update on the state of the fibre industry.

 

*         Wednesday, 21st September: The technical stream continues on
Wednesday covering topics as varied as network automation, network
visualisation, and IPv6 deployment. A number of other industry bodies are
also holding meetings on this day, including the SA Wi-Fi Forum GM, the WAPA
AGM and an ISOC Chapter meeting. ISPA has a number of workshops planned for
Wednesday, including a cybersecurity workshop, a content regulation panel
discussion, and workshops on ISPA's take-down notice process and iCode.

 

*         Thursday, 22nd September: On Thursday, the Gauteng chapter of the
Internet Society is hosting the first of two days of discussion and debate
on Internet governance issues, including the digital economy and ecommerce,
open data government, digital transformation, and Internet infrastructure
and critical resources. The Foundation for Internet Development will be
hosting its AGM, and ISPA will be running a workshop on the ISPA Code of
Conduct and hosting SpamJam XI. Users of numbering resources might be
interested in AFRINIC's workshop on migrating to the IRR database, and for
ISPs planning to take advantage of signed top-level and second-level .ZA
domains, we have a half-day workshop on DNSSEC.

 

*         Friday, 23rd September: The week wraps up with the second day of
Internet governance topics, including Internet and human rights, freedom of
expression, the impact of cybersecurity on the economy, net neutrality in
South Africa, and shaping future IGFs.
