Utah Education Network is the state-wide education/research network for the state of Utah. The network serves approximately 500,000 students, faculty and employees of K-20 education, government, and libraries throughout the state. Services include Internet (~450Mb/s upstream transit/peering doubling annually), Internet2/Abilene, video conferencing, VoIP, metro Ethernet, peering exchange, etc. Salary is competitive (even in this economy), includes health insurance, tuition benefits, retirement plan. July 25, 2002 JOB ANNOUNCEMENT UTAH EDUCATION NETWORK Technical Operations The following full-time position is now available: http://www.med.utah.edu/hr/joblist/jobdetail.cfm?id=11450 Computer Professional, (Associate Network Engineer), Job #OR-11450 Reports To: UEN Associate Technical Director, Engineering Qualifications: Four years of experience planning, designing and engineering large and complex computer networks both in a LAN and WAN environment and a detailed knowledge of computer network behavior, routing, ATM, packet behavior and the ability to research applicable material or equivalency required. Demonstrated knowledge of, but not limited to, Cisco hardware, Cisco IOS software and EIGRP routing protocol required. The ability to resolve routing, QOS, and other application specific difficulties required. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalency and/or 6 years of full-time work on routers, routing and Ethernet networks preferred. Duties: Plans for network growth and advances in network technology. By documenting and analyzing the network, recommends changes and additions to the network to improve speed, reliability and availability. Documents, diagrams, and keeps current on network topology, layout and configuration using Computer aided tools. Assists the Senior Network Engineer in providing high level Network Engineering functions for UEN. Has primary responsibility for network design, planning and engineering. Plans for network growth by analyzing network behavior, usage and events. Uses complex information gathered from various network management systems and tools to plan for network growth and expansion. Provides a resource for UEN traffic engineering. Ensures the network can handle current traffic load by inspecting and evaluating the current configuration of network equipment and circuits. Acts as a resource for UEN Technical Services teams by providing help, advice and assistance. On an emergency basis, provides assistance resolving major outages. Keeps current on technology developments and their applicability to educational interests on the UEN network. Responds to questions from UEN clients (education) for recommendations of equipment, networks, and related items. Works with other UEN Technical personnel to develop reports to assist in the management of the network.
