Hi Katie, I haven't digested your entire summary, but quickly here I
wanted to point out that drag-n-drop between collections achieves the
same end effect, for me anyway. Given the availability of DND, copy and
paste between collections has never even occurred to me. I've just never
yet used that path, so I wouldn't miss it. I appreciate that my usage
pattern could be an outlier. (Wouldn't be the first.)  :-)
