I think we could model this after Foxmarks. The Firefox extension
creates an account on the foxmarks server without ever leaving the
foxmarks setup wizard.

Here's what happens when you install the Foxmarks extension and you
decide to go forward with setting up a new account:

1. Ask user to accept terms of service (they are displayed, along with
checkbox).
2. Ask for Name, email, desired username and password. When you try to
advance in the wizard it checks if that username is available. If not,
it will tell you that it is already in use and you need to come up with
a different username. If that check passes, it will proceed
automatically from there.

Is there some reason why we'd need to validate the email when done from
the desktop client?
