Specific to this case, both "compact" and "check for updates" will  
currently set themselves to run a week after you launch a new version  
of Chandler, so they end up running very close to one another.

In general, wx doesn't seem quite on the ball about the interaction  
between window modality and level (Z-order). So, it seems quite happy  
to put non-modal windows above modal ones, which isn't really an  
optimal user experience. Hopefully, there is a way around this.
