Many thanks to all who responded -- your responses were thoughtful and helpful. You are welcome to re-send your response to everyone and/or continue discussion. Let's keep the discussion to the chandler-users list. Katie Capps Parlante wrote: > What about Chandler (server, hub, desktop) are you excited about (in the > Preview timeframe)? I don't think we should take this list as definitive, but it does give perspective on the big picture. What is to like --------------- *Sharing* Easy sharing of events and tasks is one of the main selling points. + Bookmarkable URL + Interoperable, not forcing people to "join the community" to share *Triage* Many people mentioned triage related features; managing your focus from a 'dashboard' or 'triage table view' is at the heart of what is neat about the non-calendar feaures. Jeffrey mentioned that he uses this as the spine of the demos he's tried out, adding features that complement the basic idea. + Triage status + Auto triage features + Easy to assign reminder from dashboard *Peeling the onion* The flow of gradually adding information to items is appreciated (and makes a nice demo): + Quick item entry + Stamping + Email as conduit for shared editing of item *Calendar* Features that stand out in calendaring use cases (though some may apply eventually to non-calendar scenarios): + Tracking calendar changes in a feed reader from an Atom feed + Calendar event in multiple calendars + Anytime events *Opportunities for hackers* + Easy programmatic access to data from server -- write goofy little widgets for one's web site + Python plugins on desktop *Desktop Miscellaneous* + Email integration with IMAP folders + Synchronization between two machines + Cross platform + i18n ready Potential barriers to adoption ------------------------------ + bugs/stability (experimenting with "advanced features" causing data corruption) + complex recurrences + calendar overlay (hub) + remote subscription (hub) + detail view editing rudimentary (desktop) + focus and selection issues (desktop) + dashboard/calendar not showing a calendar, sidebar oddities (desktop) Wish list --------- + auto filter rules putting items in collections + doing more with parsing of incoming emails + multiple alarms + audible alarms + url field in detail view + month view + printing Cheers, Katie _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Open Source Applications Foundation "General" mailing list http://lists.osafoundation.org/mailman/listinfo/general
