I now wish I hadn't mentioned the Gmane newsgroup mirror of the Zope
mailing lists on the list. I didn't think anyone would sign up the
mailing lists while you were still considering the issue.

Using a third-party server like this most likely won't give us one of
the most important benefits of using a news server, namely control over
spam.
