Ubuntu uses the debian package management system -dpkg which is called
through its various frontends like apt-get,aptitude,synaptic etc
You should update the /etc/apt/sources.list file to contain the
centralized software repository pertaining to ur distro
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.8-lame libmad0 libmpeg3-1 mpeglib xmms
gstreamer0.8-mad
or
sudo apt-get install gxine w32codecs
To install any s/w from the ubuntu repository you can either use
apt-get install <software>
or use the synaptic package management front end
Yes 5.10 is the latest stable version of ubuntu ..but 6.06(dapper
Drake) will release on 6th month of 2006 ;-)
If u are intrested in a previw u can get the flight6 testing version
of Dapper from ubuntu.com
