in most cases sata hd works when setting the Serial ATA option in bios
to enhanced mode. If it is not woking try the debian installer cd
image from http://kmuto.jp/b.cgi/debian/d-i-2614.htm
it works for me for almost all sata controlers except the latest
intel's D101GCC.
