Where is GCC on ubuntu 6.06??

Hi,
I got the CDs of Ubuntu 6.06 and I installed it;even though the installation
was some and fast;I could not get the GCC in the 6.06 Is it in the CD

I checked the old command of 5.10 by apt-get install build-essential but it
says that there is no build essential package in system!! Is there any way
by which the GCC can be installed from the Ubuntu 6.06 CD itself;with out
going to Internet??

While surfing through the synaptic I found the gcc4.0-base is there!
