To set up Malayalam keyboard in GNU/Linux ( Fedora core 2 to 4 )
follow the procedure given below.
    1. Download www.ossics.com/downloads/MalKb.tar.bz2
    2. Extract  the  archive  (  tar  -jxvf MalKb.tar.bz2 )
    3. Login as root.
    4. Open a terminal.
    4. Go to the directory where the file is extracted.
    5. Change to MalKb directory. ( cd MalKb )
    6. Run install script. ( ./install.sh )
    7. Logout and logon with your user account
    8. Write click on Panel, go to "Add to Panel ".
    9. Select "Input method Switcher".  You will get an icon white
rectangle with 'En' written in it on the panel.
  10. Click on the icon and go to Add or Remove.
  11. From the displayed window add Malyalam.
  12. Now select window to which Malayalam is to be entered. And click
 on the icon, select Malayalam.
  13. Malayalam can be entered now using Inscript keyboard layout.
  14. Use F6 button to toggle from Inscript to phonetic keyboard and vise-visa.

so i think it contains a transliteration key board layout... (didn't tested ;)
